In less than three weeks, the 77th General Convention of The Episcopal
Church will convene in Indianapolis. We gather as the Church in
community in order to discern what the Holy Spirit is calling us to
accomplish at this particular time. On topics ranging from the Church’s
response to the Anglican Covenant, the implementation of modifications
to the Church’s health and pension plan for clergy and lay employees,
consideration of proposed rites for the blessing of same gender
relationships, reorganization of the General Convention process and
structures, or any of a number of other wide ranging topics, it will
undoubtedly be a time when decisions made will affect our Diocesan life.
Without knowing the actual specifics of what the Convention will decide
on any given topic, I have outlined various implementation plans based
on a range of possible scenarios. Some will be as simple as directly
implementing a new Church-wide policy. Others will require some
explanation and local adaptation to make them work in an effective way.
It is all do-able, but we will need to await final Convention action to
know which plan will need to be put into effect. To that end, I ask your
prayers for us as we do that work of discernment. The Diocesan
deputation will be in touch with you throughout the Convention using our
communication plan. Follow this each day by checking this blog. +Don
