Remembering The Rt. Rev. Robert P. Atkinson

General Convention becomes the center of attention for those of us who are here.  However, we are never cut off from the larger context in which this Church is called to live out our common life and ministry.  So it is with a reminder of that larger context that we receive the word of the death of The Rt. Rev. Robert P. Atkinson, 5th Bishop of West Virginia and former Rector of Calvary Church, Memphis.
He died on the morning of July 5.

On a personal note, Bob Atkinson was generous and kind to me while I served Calvary as priest-in-charge over thirty years ago.  Among other rememberances, I recall that he came to preach at the Lenten Series that particular year, and his quiet humor and thoughtful presence were evident.  Also evident was the love of Calvary for this man and his family.  He life was one of devotion to this Church and to our Lord.

Bishop Atkinson's wife, Rosemary, informed the current Bishop of West Virginia, The Rt. Rev. Michie Klusmeyer, that a small celebration of Bishop Atkinson’s life will be held for family members. A larger celebration of his life will be held later on a date to be determined.

Please keep Bishop Atkinson, Rosemary and their family in your prayers. You can send messages of condolence to:

Mrs. Rosemary Atkinson
9225 Rosewater Lane
Jacksonville, FL 32256

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.
